Join us in person on Tuesday, June 13 at 7 PM as Emily and Mitchell Clionsky present their book, Dementia Prevention: Using Your Head to Save Your Brain.

About the Book

Emily Clionsky, MD, and Mitchell Clionsky, PhD, are a physician and neuropsychologist couple who have cared for their own parents with dementia, created a test used by doctors to measure cognitive function, and treated more than 25,000 patients with cognitive impairment. In Dementia Prevention, they combine the most current scientific findings about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias with their experience to present a practical guide that empowers you to improve your brain’s future. This book skips the fads, the unsupported claims of advertised products, and fringe theories. Instead, the authors guide you through a science-based tour of dementia, including how your brain works and how its function is affected by everything from blood circulation and blood pressure to sugar levels, medications, vision, and hearing. You will learn how your activity level, weight, habits, mental outlook, and social engagement may affect your likelihood of developing dementia. Dementia Prevention provides a dementia risk checklist to better understand your personal risk profile to help you on your journey. The authors’ training and experience as behavioral scientists will help you set better goals, identify roadblocks to success, and overcome these obstacles. Forgetfulness and confusion are not an inevitable part of growing older—you can make changes to keep your brain working well into your 70s and beyond. From how you breathe while you sleep to what you do socially and physically every day, Dementia Prevention will give you practical—and sometimes surprising— methods for you to protect your brain.

About the Authors

EMILY CLIONSKY, MD, completed residencies in internal medicine and in psychiatry, and is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. MITCHELL CLIONSKY, PhD, is a board-certified neuropsychologist who specializes in evaluating and treating patients with cognitive impairment, dementia, ADHD, and traumatic brain injury. A husband-and-wife team, they have a combined 70 years of professional and clinical experience in medicine and neuropsychology and have treated more than 10,000 patients. Join us on Thursday, March 31 at 7 PM on Zoom when  Maurice Broaddus will talk about his new novel, Sweep of Stars. He will  be in conversation with John Scalzi, author of The Kaiju Preservation Society.

About the Book

Maurice Broaddus’s Sweep of Stars is the first in a trilogy that explores the struggles of an empire. Epic in scope and intimate in voice, it follows members of the Muungano empire – a far-reaching coalition of city-states that stretches from O.E. (original earth) to Titan – as it faces an escalating series of threats.

“The beauty in blackness is its ability to transform. Like energy we are neither created nor destroyed, though many try.” – West African Proverb

The Muungano empire strived and struggled to form a utopia when they split away from old earth. Freeing themselves from the endless wars and oppression of their home planet in order to shape their own futures and create a far-reaching coalition of city-states that stretched from Earth and Mars to Titan.

With the wisdom of their ancestors, the leadership of their elders, the power and vision of their scientists and warriors they charted a course to a better future. But the old powers could not allow them to thrive and have now set in motion new plots to destroy all that they’ve built.

In the fire to come they will face down their greatest struggle yet.

Join Odyssey Bookshop and our friends at the Greenlight Bookstore as together we welcome award-winning author of the Booker-prize finalist We Need New Names, NoViolet Bulawayo, for the launch of her new novel Glory. This is a Zoom event on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:30 PM. Glory is the Odyssey Bookshop March First Editions Club selection. NoViolet will be joined by Novuyo Tshuma, author of House of Stone.

About the Book

Named a most anticipated book of 2022 by Vulture, Buzzfeed, and Oprah Daily, and hailed as “genius” (Jason Reynolds) and “like nothing we’ve read before” (Book Riot), Bulawayo’s new blockbuster of a novel chronicles the decline of an oppressive regime, and the chaotic kinetic potential for real liberation that rises in its wake. After the unexpected fall of Old Horse, the long-serving leader of a fictional country, a vividly imagined nation of animals wrestle for power and reconciliation, unveiling the ruthlessness and strategy required to uphold the illusion of absolute power and the imagination and optimism needed to overthrow it. Join us for a virtual launch event co-presented with our friends at Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn. Together we celebrate this epic work by a major new voice in fiction, interviewed and joined in conversation by a special guest to be announced.
